Eligibility Overview
NAIA Eligibility Center
Entering Freshman and First Time NAIA participants must create an account with the NAIA Eligibility Center, PLAYNAIA, and receive an Eligible determination from the NAIA prior to competing in an event. In addition, all required documents (High School Transcript, College Transcripts, ACT/SAT Test Scores, etc.) must be submitted and review prior to competing.
NAIA - Entering Freshmen - Must meet 2 out of 3 requirements:
- 2.0 cumulative GPA
- Finish in top half of the student’s graduating class
- Minimum standardized test scores of:
- 18 on ACT (before March 2016) or 16 (March 2016 and later); or
- 860 on SAT (Evidence-based Reading and Writing and Math)
- Early determinations through the Eligibility Center are available after a student’s 5th and/or 7th semesters of high school.
NAIA - Continuing Students
Progress Rule
- To compete in a student’s 2nd season of competition:
- 24 semester institutional credits accumulated
- To compete in a student’s 3rd season of competition:
- 48 semester institutional credits accumulated
- To compete in a student’s 4th season of competition:
- 72 semester institutional credits accumulated
- 48 semester general education and/or major institutional credits accumulated
GPA Requirement
2.0 GPA required of any student-athlete who is a junior or senior academically (60 credits or more earned), or a junior or senior athletically (in 3rd or 4th season of competition)
9 & 24/36 Hour Rule
2nd term Freshman
- Must have met entering freshmen requirements (2 of 3); and
- Have earned at least 9 institutional credits prior to 2nd term of attendance
Students must complete a minimum of 24 semester credits (or 36 quarter credits) in the previous 2 terms of attendance. Up to 12 credits may be used from non-terms which fall between or after the 2 most recent terms of attendance.
- Terms of attendance are defined as full-time enrollment
- Summer terms are considered non-terms
NIRA - Rodeo Eligibility
The University of Providence Men and Women’s rodeo teams are affiliated with the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA). Athletic Eligibility for Rodeo is governed by the NIRA.

Athletic Certification Holds
Student-athletes may experience a registration hold on his/her account which will prevent electronic schedule changes from being made through ArgoExpress. If you see a hold on your student account noting ‘athletic eligibility hold’ please contact the Registrar’s Office. You are permitted to add and drop classes; however, prior to doing so, the Registrar’s Office will ensure that your athletic eligibility is not compromised as a result of the changes being requested.
