Class of 2018 | Psychology with a minor in Forensic Sciences
During my senior year of high school is when I started to become really intrigued by the study of psychology and the importance of mental health. Diving deeper into the foundation of psychology and my personal experiences, I knew working in the psychology field and incorporating aspects of the criminal justice system was the education and career path I wanted to take. Discovering that the University of Providence had both psychology and forensic programs (as well as a new dance team!) I decided to apply. Once finding out I was accepted into the University of Providence, I was motivated to begin my journey towards working in the field of forensic psychology.
Fast forward a few months, I started my freshman year at the University of Providence dancing for the Argo Spirit Squad and striving for a career in my new found passion for forensic psychology. Over the next four years, my passion for psychology grew through supportive interactions with my professors, peers, and other faculty members. Getting involved in various groups and activities on campus truly made my time at the University of Providence influential. One program that will always remain close to my heart is the Providence Formation Program. Sharing experiences and having conversations on human dignity, compassion, and vulnerability with other Providence Formation members strengthened my ability to make genuine interpersonal connections with those I interact with today.
After graduating from the University of Providence, I moved to New York City to continue my education in the Forensic Mental Health Counseling MA program at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. I recently was awarded the opportunity to complete my externship through the Pinkerton Fellowship, working with youth who have involvement with the criminal justice system. I am currently completing my clinical externship at EAC Queens TASC, an alternative to incarceration program, assessing youth with severe mental illness and advocating on their behalf at Queens County Criminal Court. The University of Providence not only prepared me to continue my education in a master’s program, but the University of Providence also provided me with lifelong friendships, the opportunity to explore the beautiful state of Montana, and the space to grow!
