Dr. Melissa Robinson Named New Nursing Division Chair

It is with great pleasure that I announce the hiring of Dr. Melissa Robinson as the University’s next Nursing Division Chair for the School of Health Professions. Melissa will begin her tenure with UP on June 1, 2020.

Dr. Melissa Robinson has been a faculty member at the Linfield College School of Nursing in Portland, Oregon since 2009. She has taught in the online RN to BSN program and held leadership roles as Director of the RN to BSN program and Associate Dean of Nursing.

Originally from Montana, Dr. Robinson started her career as a registered nurse at Columbus Hospital in Great Falls in 1991. In 2006, she earned a BSN from Salish Kootenai College where she then started teaching as an adjunct faculty member in the RN to BSN program before moving to Oregon. Dr. Robinson earned a Master’s in nursing education from Oregon Health & Science University in 2008 and a Ph.D. in nursing education from Capella University in 2014.

Dr. Robinson’s clinical work in nursing has been primarily in community health including the last 22 years working in hospice & palliative care. She has taught courses in population health, trauma-informed care, and palliative care nursing and developed expertise in online nursing education while at Linfield College.

Dr. Robinson has authored a number of articles and textbook chapters on best practices in online nursing education and population health issues and regularly presents at local and national conferences. In addition to her commitment to health issues impacting vulnerable populations, Dr. Robinson is passionate about nursing workforce development that emphasizes mentoring, leadership development, and advanced education.
