University of Providence Division Chair for Health Programs, Dr. Frankie Lyons, announced that Mary Amick, EdD is joining the Healthcare Administration faculty. Amick brings over eleven years of experience in higher education and extensive background in senior care to the Healthcare Administration Program. Most recently, she served as Healthcare Administration Chair and Internship Director for Concordia University-Portland.
In making the announcement, Lyons discussed the importance of not just experience and skills, but of the mission, saying, “Our focus at the University of Providence emphasizes a shared mission. Mary Amick shares our mission. We believe this shared commitment will benefit our students and the university.” Amick echoed the focus on students saying, “I am excited to have found a program that combines rigor, competency-based education, perceptive and comprehensive curricula and a deep desire to provide the very best education to students. The faculty and administrators I have met all embrace the goal of keeping students the priority in everything they do.”
Lyons also noted the growth in the healthcare administration programs with the Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Administration complementing the Master of Healthcare Administration, the Executive Masters in Healthcare Administration (offered exclusively with The Health Management Academy), and the Health Justice certificate. She emphasized the university as a ministry of Providence, saying, “Our unique relationship with Providence St. Joseph Health has encouraged the creation of a healthcare administration continuum to develop leadership skills needed at different levels of management within the industry.” Amick added, “It is especially important to me that those who wish to be in healthcare are the right match and have the right skills for the sometimes intense and changing world it offers. That is particularly important for those who are in charge of developing and implementing care for the most vulnerable members of our community. I am honored to be part of the UP School of Health Professions, Bachelors, and Masters programs.”
