University of Providence Expands Competitive Scholarship Options

FOR RELEASE: November 7, 2024

GREAT FALLS, MONTANA – The University of Providence continues to further its commitment to making private higher education attainable to all, by expanding scholarship options to students.

The Gately Scholarship for Church Leadership allows newly admitted students to the University to attain a $10,000 stackable scholarship, along with several other benefits throughout each school year.

“Each Gately Scholar will enjoy the opportunities to reside in a living and learning community with their cohort, engage in spiritual formation and accompaniment, and participate in an annual retreat. Gately Scholars will also be placed in an intentional parish internship during their junior and senior years,” said A.J. Hoy, Vice President for Mission Integration at UP.

The Gately Scholarship program is named after Sister Mary Loretta Gately, SP (1869-1946. SP671) who pioneered teacher training for the Sisters of Providence. Sister Gately is largely responsible for the formation of Sisters as educators – the primary service of the Great Falls Junior College for Women, now known as UP.

Gately Scholars will develop leadership skills to effectively lead and inspire others in various ministry and community settings, as well as learn how to make informed, value-driven decisions to reflect a commitment to social justice, integrity, and the common good.

“Our world, now more than ever, needs values-driven young leaders to step into our communities of faith. The Gately Scholarship aims to form students, regardless of their career trajectory to be people of deep faith and service, open to giving of themselves, no matter what career is calling them,” Hoy said.

The University offers two competitive scholarships: the Spirit of Service Leadership Scholarship and the Gately Scholarship. Applications for the 2025 school year are now open. Full qualifications and details can be found online
