GREAT FALLS, MONTANA – The Campus Ministry Office at the University of Providence started a new way to build community within the University campus: Mission Muffin Monday.
Mission Muffin Monday offers students, along with staff and faculty, to grab a free muffin and coffee every Monday from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. upstairs in the University Center.
The Campus Ministry office hopes this will allow them to not only connect with students, but to ensure students know the Campus Ministry office can be a resource for them anytime throughout their college career at UP.
“A lot of students will come to the UC for class or to meet up with someone in Admissions or whoever that might be. But to be able to come up the steps and be right outside where senior administration hangs out, is kind of nice. It’s nice for the students to realize, ‘hey, this is not a scary spot,’” said Roy Lanham, Director of Campus Ministry at UP.
A weekly email reminder is sent out to all students, staff, and faculty Monday morning, along with a prayer to start the week with.
“It’s so easy in a post-COVID college environment to kind of check out, but to see people make the effort to come across campus to engage in community early on a Monday morning is very rewarding for me. I think it’s telling of what people are hungry for. Not just muffins, but for community as well,” said A.J. Hoy, Vice President for Mission Integration at UP.
Apart from Mission Muffin Monday, both Hoy and Lanham plan to greet students with coffee and hot chocolate during this winter season, setting up in various locations across campus.
