Experts in Community Health Join CHI Advisory Board

The Community Health Investment (CHI) Certificate may be new, but the advisory board for this certificate are not new to the healthcare, community, and public health fields. The board, consisting of seven members experienced in community-based healthcare, have worked together to create the curriculum and use both their experience and personal networks to advocate for the program. Dora Barilla is the program director for the CHI Program as well as the President and Co-Founder of HC2 Strategies, Inc. She is esteemed as one of the leading voices on community-based healthcare in California and across the country. Dora has worked with local and state public health departments over the past 34 years while representing Providence, Adventist Health and Loma Linda University Health Systems. Dora works closely with health systems, governments, and faith and community-based organizations who are committed to removing disparity from vulnerable populations.

 

 

Tyler Norris, MDiv is the Chief Executive of Well Being Trust, an impact philanthropy with a mission to advance the mental, social, and spiritual health of the nation. Tyler has shaped health and development initiatives in hundreds of communities in the U.S. and around the world. As a graduate of Harvard Business School’s Executive Program, he’s found success in many other roles including, but not limited to, the founding CEO of Community Initiatives, and as the founding chair of IP3/ Community Commons.

 

 

 

Laura Hardin is the Senior Advisor for the Camden Coalition’s National Center for Complex Social Needs. She developed an award-winning Complex Care model that creates better patient navigation and outcomes. Hardin is known as a national expert in developing systems for vulnerable populations and has been a huge asset to the CHI Advisory Board.

 

 

 

Dr. Maria Hernandez is a leader in health equity and pay for success initiatives designed to address the upstream social determinants of health among vulnerable populations. As a first-generation Latina, Hernandez is committed to empowering the next generation of Latina executives and that passion inspired her to cofound LatinaVIDA, a nonprofit providing educational forums for career minded Latinas throughout the nation.

 

 

 

Julie Trocchio is the senior director of community benefit and continuing care for the Catholic Health Association of the United States. She coordinates CHA activities related to community benefits and tax-exemption of not-for-profit healthcare organizations and leads the association’s program for Catholic-sponsored long-term and elder care. UP has worked closely with CHA and now offer the CHI Certificate program at a discounted rate to CHA benefit-eligible employees.

 

 

 

 

 

Dr. Rishi Manchanda is President & CO of HealthBegins, a mission driven consulting and technology firm that helps healthcare and community partners improve care and social factors that make people sick in the first place. Manchanda’s commitment to improving care and social determinants of health for vulnerable populations. He introduced a new model of healthcare workers- the Upstreamists- who improve care and equity by addressing patients’ social needs.

 

 

 

Angel Coaston has been a Registered Nurse for over 30 years with an expertise in in-patient, community-based care and faith care. She is currently the Executive Director of Clinical Affiliations and Academic Operations at Cal Baptist University School of Nursing. Coaston has a huge passion for volunteering and has held leadership roles that have supported and encouraged faith communities to engage congregates to serve their local communities.
