Sports management is defined as a field that encompasses sports and business. It’s an industry that merges the two fields, consisting of a career involving athletes, coaches, marketing, financial management. The sports management program at the University of Providence has taught me several communication, negotiation and networking skills that will give me the best opportunity to be successful after graduation.

A career in sports management is very broad and there are many career opportunities in sports management, including working for professional sports teams, universities, and other organizations. Some of the most popular roles in sports management include general manager, marketing director, sports agent, and financial analyst. However, if none of those roles peak your interest, a career in sports management opens the door for countless amount of business related careers and opportunities.

When the opportunity arose to play hockey for UP while earning a degree, I couldn’t say no. UP’s sports management program provides a lot of small business style classes with lots of interactive discussions with fellow classmates and professors. You will learn skills and information that will give you the best opportunity to be successful in the business side of sports.
