GREAT FALLS, MONTANA – An annual tradition of Lessons and Carols at the University of Providence will continue Thursday, Dec. 5th at Trinitas Chapel at 7 p.m. for its sixth year.
Lessons and Carols is a chapel service inspired by a Christmas Eve tradition that originated in 19th-century England. True to this tradition, today’s service centers around the nativity story. Carols will be sung throughout the story, including 12 traditional Christmas carols.
“Lessons and Carols is a great way to welcome in our Advent and Christmas seasons. It is an evening where everyone can put aside stress, anxiety, and worry and be filled by the joyous music of the season,” said Kody Diekhans, Choir Instructor at UP.
The University choir, Schola Cantorum Choir, will carry parishioners throughout the carols. This semester, the choir consists of 36 members from the local community, and is open to anyone interested in joining.
“Making music with other people is such a beneficial experience for the mind, body, and spirit. As the director, I believe I may get more from the choir members than they get from me. It is a very rewarding experience,” Diekhans said.
Those interested in joining the choir can reach out to Diekhans at kody.diekhans@uprovidence.edu.
