Medical Assistant Program Expands to Southern California

FOR RELEASE: Feb. 24, 2022

GREAT FALLS, MONTANA – The University of Providence is excited to announce the expansion of its Medical Assistant program into Southern California, set to launch this fall.

The MA program is a 10-month course allowing students to learn all medical assistant skills, including but not limited to vitals, rooming, electrocardiography, laboratory skills, phlebotomy, and injections. The program is unique in its design, made to complement a full-time work schedule, with 80-percent of the work completed online, and 20-percent completed in-person as part of a skills lab.

The university’s MA program is an affordable option, running at a total cost of under $10,000. University of Providence partners and those who work within Providence Health Services (including Benefis Health System and Swedish Health Services) can apply and pay under $7,000 for the program for themselves or dependents.

The need for medical assistants in the U.S. has always been high, with the COVID-19 pandemic only enhancing the need for the profession. Medical assistants have been utilized in both COVID-19 vaccine clinics, and COVID-19 testing sites.

“They have been an imperative part of our fight against COVID and in healthcare in general. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of Medical Assistants is projected to grow 18-percent from 2020 to 2030, much faster than the average for all occupations.” – Hayley Chang, Medical Assistant Program Director

The university’s Medical Assistant program has grown rapidly since launching in Oregon in spring 2018, which was quickly followed by a second expansion in Washington in fall 2018. The MA program was again expanded to Great Falls, Montana in summer 2019.
