The NBCC Foundation recently named the 2021 recipients of the Center for Credentialing & Education (CCE) training awards. Dr. Susan Stuntzner, MSC adjunct faculty, received the 2021 CCE Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) award.
Dr. Susan Stuntzner has over 24 years of experience working in the counseling profession. Currently, Dr. Stuntzner is the Director of Accessible Education and a Counselor at Southwestern Oregon Community College. She works with both students who have disabilities and those who do not and collaborates with faculty in order to help them understand and implement the needs of said students. As an adjunct professor for the University of Providence, she teaches graduate level counseling courses including but not limited to Counseling Theories, Case Management, and Gambling Addiction.
Receiving the ACS Scholarship was hugely important to Dr. Stuntzner because it will assist her in completing the ACS credential as well as some vital professional goals. Completing the ACS credential will allow Dr. Stuntzner to assist others within the rural town she currently resides in. This is important when options are limited due to the geographical location and lack of financial funding. The ACS credential would be a vital part of helping the supervision status change and grow within the state of Montana.
Dr. Stuntzner shared why the ACS Scholarship was so important. “Counseling supervision is an essential and critical component of counselor training and development. It helps people learn new skills, identify professional areas for growth, enhance personal understanding of themselves and their beliefs and values, discover the importance of separating their beliefs and values from the people they serve, be present with a wide variety of individuals, and apply numerous techniques to help individuals heal and move forward in a positive fashion. Counseling supervision is a powerful and important component of counselor’s development and can positively impact a professional’s ability to effectively work with others as a part of the clinical and healing process.”
