Upon graduating with his Bachelor’s degree from University of Providence (then College of Great Falls) in 1982, Stuart Van Horn was hired as a news reporter for KCRA-3 station where he worked for former news director Ed Coghlan. After three years as a reporter, he began a nearly four decade career as a postsecondary education administrator at numerous California community colleges and state community college organizations. He has served in a variety of roles, including community relations, dean of instruction, dean of athletics, vice chancellor of education/workforce development, college President, and concluded his career as Chancellor of a multi-college district governing two community colleges in California’s Central Valley.
The son of two educators, he earned his Doctorate in Educational Leadership in 2008 at University of Phoenix School of Advanced Studies, his Master’s in Education in 1991 at Azusa Pacific University and his Associate in Arts degree in 1980 at a California community college. He was an all-conference member of the Argonauts basketball team (1980-1982) and was the NAIA national free throw champion his senior year (91.5%), the only Argo ever to receive that award. He is married and lives in north Idaho after retiring in July 2021.
